The Radio Controller Board RCB231LPA V4.3.21 is an affordable low power radio module with increased transmitting power.
The board is based on Atmel’s low power AVR microcontroller Atmega1281V [Link-Symboldatasheet] and a 2.4 GHz radio transceiver AT86RF231 [Link-Symboldatasheet] with a connected power amplifier µPG2314T5N [Link-Symboldatasheet]. The power amplifier can optionally be switched off.

The used AT86RF231 possesses extended hardware functions - e.g. 128 bit AES engine and separate frame start interrupt opposite to AT86RF230. Thereby it is ideally suitable for radio solutions according to standard IEEE 802.15.4 and for ZigBee® and ISM applications, which require extended security functions.

The transmitting power of the module is 19 dBM and its receiving sensitivity is -103 dBm. The module's range depends on which antenna is being used. The module's 60 pin interface allows for flexible operation and use of all of the ATmega1281V components and because of this, quick realization of different tasks.

Power is supplied either by 2 AAA batteries or the 60 pin interface and operates in the range of 2.7..3.6 VDC. Energy consumption is approximately 92 mA with power amplifier in sending and receiving mode and less than 5 µA in standby. The module features a 32 kHz low power timer.

Accessories:
Recommended connectors 30-pin: :
- SAMTEC TFM-115-02-S-D (available at Farnell, article no. 1690087) :
- Tyco 5-104655-4 (available at Farnell, article no. 1106324 or RS Components, article no. 406-893)
