The Radio Controller Board RCB230SMA V3.3.1 is an affordable, high-performance radio module based on the 2.4 GHz radio transceiver AT86RF230 [Link-Symboldatasheet] combined with Atmel's low power AVR microcontroller ATmega1281V [Link-Symboldatasheet].

The RCB230SMA V3.3.1 module can be used for wireless solutions in accordance with the standard IEEE 802.15.4 for ISM and ZigBeeTM applications.

The module has no integrated antenna, instead, it has an SMA interface for an external antenna. In order to reduce interference and unwanted radiation, the module has an RF screen, allowing multiple radios to be in operation at one location using cable and attenuators. High shielding effectiveness eliminates the possibility of communication without using the cable.

The module's transmitting power is 3 dBm and its receiving sensitivity is -100 dBm. Its range depends on the antenna used. The module's 60 pin interface allows for flexible operation and use of all of the ATmega1281V components and because of this, quick realization of different tasks.

Power is supplied either by 2 AAA batteries or the 60 pin interface and operates in the range of 1.8..3.6 VDC. Energy consumption is approximately 25 mA in sending and receiving mode and less than 1 µA in standby. The module features a 32 kHz low power timer.
