The Radio Extender230 V2.3 is an affordable wireless module based on the 2.4 GHz radio transceiver circuit AT86RF230 [Link-Symboldatasheet].

The Radio Extender 230 V2.3 is connected directly to the Link-SymbolAtmel STK500-Board using a 40 pin plug and using the REB to STK600 adapter to the Link-SymbolAtmel STK600-Board . It allows the fast and simple starting, programming and evaluation of the transceiver AT86RF230. Wireless connections in the 2.4 GHz ISM band according to the IEEE standard 802.15.4 and ZigBee ® applications can be easily set up, tested and diversified.

This transceiver supports many Atmel microcontrollers such as ATmega2561, ATmega2560, ATmega1281, ATmega1280, ATmega644, ATmega324 and ATmega164.

The transmitting power is 3 dBm and receiving sensitivity is -100 dBm. The data rate is 250 kBps. The range depends on the antenna used. The power supply needed is between 1.8 and 3.6 V, and by connecting a measuring device the power consumption can be measured. While sending and receiving, power consumption is approximately 15 mA and in standby less than 1 µA.

It is simple to connect antennas or measuring devices using the integrated SMA socket.
