The RadioExtender231ED V4.1.1 is an affordable radio module based on the 2.4 GHz radio transceiver AT86RF231
[
datasheet].
The radio module is equipped with two ceramic antennas and supports antenna diversity. The hardware selects automatically the antenna with the valid transmission path.
Thus within building installations a very high availability is reached.
Additionally to the antenna diversity the used AT86RF231 possesses extended hardware functions - e.g. 128 bit AES engine.
Using this module in combination with the the
Atmel STK500-Board and the
Atmel STK600-Board the quick and easy starting, programming and evaluation of the transceiver AT86RF231 is possible.
Wireless connections in the 2.4 GHZ ISM band along with ZigBee
TM and ISM applications can be created, tested and diversified in accordance with the IEEE 802.15.4 standard.
Using a 40 pin plug, the Radio Extender231ED V4.1.1 can be directly connected to the
Atmel STK500-Board and using the REB to STK600 adapter to the
Atmel STK600-Board .
This transceiver supports many ATMEL microcontrollers such as ATmega2561, ATmega2560, ATmega1281, ATmega1280, ATmega644, ATmega324 and ATmega164.
The module´s transmitting power is 3dBm ERP and its receiver sensitivity is -100 dBm, with a data rate of 250 kBps. The module has a range of up to 300 m in a free field with low energy use. Supply voltage ranges from 1.8 to 3.6 V, and power use is approximately 15 mA in sending and receiving mode and less than 1 µA in standby. The transmitter's power use can be checked by attaching a measuring device.
The Radio Extender has an SMA connector to attach an antenna.
Accessories:
REB to STK600 Adapter
REB to SAM7EK Adapter
REB to SAM9EK Adapter
